AKA Dismaland's Anarcho Samba!
Bristol Samba is a community band of drummers and dancers playing energetic Brazilian-based music for celebrating and dancing. The samba band and dancers perform at festivals, parties and events throughout the year, raising the roof and creating a vibrant atmosphere. Click on the buttons to discover where we'll be performing, how to book the band for your own event, and how to join us. Bristol Samba promotes, supports and develops percussion-based music and related carnival arts, particularly in our local community. The band has been performing for over twenty-five years, since its formation under the name Bristol School of Samba.
Garden Party Time
Well the sun came out for us at Redland Green May Fair - just! Thanks to everyone who braved the weather to come and see us. Let's hope we can do the same trick next Sunday 8 May at the Trinity Centre for its Annual Garden Party celebrating 40 years of music. There's a great line up of performance and workshops from noon onwards - not to mention a final opportunity to catch Jimmy Cauty's ADP Riot Tour. We'll be playing about 17.45s come and support our samba home!
Spring has Sprung!
Never mind what the thermometer says ... it's time for Redland May Fair this Bank Holiday Monday, 2nd May, so it must be Spring! It's a lovely family day out with over 120 stalls, entertainment for all the family and a variety of music, starting from 1pm. It's a bumper Bank Holiday Bonanza and Bristol Samba will be closing the festivities at 4pm. Come and have a dance - it'll help you warm up ;)
St Patrick's Day Parade
Our first public gig of 2016 takes place this weekend when we'll be taking part in the annual St Patrick's Day Parade! We'll be leading the procession from St Patrick's Primary School, BS5 8AS, on Sunday 13th March and making our way to City Academy - it all starts at 1pm, so come and join us!
Exciting times for Bristol Samba!
2016 is off to an exciting start for us as we've just been awarded charitable status, ensuring our continued commitment as a community band to promote Afro Brazilian music and dance in the Bristol area and beyond. With thanks to Making Music UK for their help. Plus over the next few weeks we have a private gig at a carnival dinner, a birthday celebration for one of our drummers and plenty more events to come. Watch this space!
Merry Christmas from Bristol Samba
As we pack our drums and dancing shoes away for the winter break, Bristol Samba would like to thank all our friends for supporting us so brilliantly through a very busy year. Here's wishing everyone a wonderful festive season, and we're looking forward to seeing you all getting back into the swing in 2016 - it wouldn't be the same without you! x
Light up the longest night (well, nearly) with Bristol Samba!
Our last gig of the year is nearly here! Come and see Bristol Samba head Bedminster Winter Lantern Parade this Saturday, December 12th! The procession starts from Saint Francis' Church, North Street, at 4.30pm and concludes at Compass Point in South Street with fireworks at around 6pm. Wrap up warm, don some fairy lights and come and join the fun!
Festive Fun with Bristol Samba
Sanctum Bristol finished yesterday and we're proud to have been part of such a successful project along with so many other great performers. Don't worry though, there's plenty to look forward to as we're at two local festive events in the next few weeks. On Sat 5th December from 1.15pm we'll be at the Christmas Fair of Horfield Primary School, Bishop Manor Road BS10 5BD. Then on 12th December we'll be all lit up for the Bedminster Lantern Parade. Christmas carnival's coming!
Nearly time for our next adventure ...
We're excited and intrigued to be involved in the Sanctum Project this autumn as part of the Bristol 2015 European Green Capital. From 29th October to 21st November, Temple Church, Bristol will be transformed by artist Theaster Gates into an intimate structure with a continuous programme of sound by a wide variety of Bristol performers. We can't tell you when we'll be playing though - the surprise element for visitors is all part of the experience!
Hooptastic to have been invited back to SWHoop, the South West Hooping Conference, playing at their LED ball. We're on our home turf of Trinity Centre this Saturday 3rd October, ... and this time our dancers will be joining in with the hoopers! Now that's put a smile on our faces!
Return to Dismaland!
We're very, VERY proud to announce that Bristol Samba have been invited back to Banksy's Dismaland for several performances between now and the end of the exhibition on 27th September. See if you can spot us being dismal when you visit! It won't be difficult - we'll be the ones making all the noise ... ;)
