Bristol Samba is a community band that welcomes new drummers and dancers of all levels. We hold regular lessons and workshops throughout the year. So, even if you've never drummed or danced before, come and give it a try!
Drum with Bristol Samba
Our beginner's course starts each year in early October and takes place on Monday evenings. In the first term, which runs for ten weeks until Christmas, there is an introduction to the drums and drumming techniques and a chance to try out each of the drums played by the band. By the end of the first term you will have a good idea of how the rhythms fit together and will have started to learn some of the Bristol Samba set.
After a short break for Christmas, the course continues with opportunties to improve your skills. It will gradually introduce more of the Bristol Samba rhythms and prepare you to join the main band for summer performances. These terms run back-to-back for eight weeks at a time.
The beginner's ten week course costs £50 (£40 for concessions) and the following eight week courses cost £40 (£30 concessions) payable on the first week of each new term.
All equipment is provided for you during the course.
Dance with Bristol Samba
Much of the dancing takes place with the live band so it's a lot of fun with some real samba rhythms to enjoy. All classes are aimed towards performance, but you don't have to be a performer to take part - you can join us for the fun and the exercise.
Classes are held on Monday nights and dance teachers alternate week by week so that you can experience a wide range of dancing styles.
Claudia teaches samba reggae and carnival style.
Rachel teaches African samba and samba fusion.
Classes cost £5 (£4 for concessions) per session. For more information on any of the dance classes call 0117 955014.
Remember to wear comfortable and loose clothing; you may get very hot!
